Empowering Nepal’s Future Through Education
In partnership with the Early Childhood Development Center, we’re providing scholarships, job placement, and mentorship to empower youth whose parents are in incarceration.
About the Program
In September 2019, Gorkhaly Foundation in collaboration with The Early Childhood Development Center (ECDC) launched an annual college scholarship, job placement and mentorship program for youth whose parents are in incarceration.
Who can apply?
Children of inmates currently in the prison systems of Nepal are eligible for this scholarship. To qualify, they should have completed their Secondary Education Examination (SEE) and passed entrance exams at one of the technical schools of Engineering and Technology in Nepal.
Why is this work important?
In Nepal, 30,000 adults are behind bars leaving their children without a parent or both, sometimes cared for by extended families but very often fending for themselves. Currently the government of Nepal does not have programs that are able to support these children.
The scholarship covers:
- Tuition fees
- Food and lodging
- Books and stationaries
- Travel expenses
- Related costs of acquiring a degree
We believe that everyone should have access to education and training and hope to raise funds in order to support more students each year.

Transforming Lives Through Education
When visiting Nepal, we often heard how difficult it was to find skilled labor, as many workers migrate to the Middle East for better opportunities. In partnership with ECDC, we’re changing that narrative.
75% Funded
The Gorkhaly Foundation funds 75% of the program, with ECDC covering the remaining 25%.
Comprehensive Support
Beyond tuition, we cover lodging, books, supplies, and travel expenses.
Career Ready
Students receive job placement assistance and mentorship throughout their journey.
